The Spinoff Prize by Nature Research and Merck is back. Launched last year, the competition seeks to offer early stage university spin-out companies an excellent platform to build reputation, increase exposure and enhance attractiveness to investors and venture capital firms.
UCD spin-out Equal1 Labs was one of just 32 companies around the world that was named “one to watch” in the competition last year. You can read more about last year’s ones to watch and overall competition winner here.
The Spinoff Prize focuses on companies established in the past three years. It is open to companies that are involved in the commercialisation life sciences or physical sciences research. Applications from spin-outs seeking to translate innovative new science into commercial applications that tackle global challenges are particularly encouraged. Selected spin-out companies will be featured on nature.com. All of the featured spin-outs are offered a digital “badge” to flag their success to interested parties.
Shortlisted companies will pitch at a slam event as part of the Curious2021 Future Insight Conference in Germany, following which one winner will receive a €30,000 cash prize.
